Fifty-Two Mysterious Disappearances in New York City

THE New York World publishes a list of fifty-two persons who have mysteriously disappeared in that city since last August. All efforts of the police to find them have been in vain. Allowing that four-fifths of the whole number are those who have absconded, children kidnapped, or girls who have entered upon a life of shame, there still remain some ten or a dozen whose disappearance can only be accounted for on the ground of murder or suicide.—Cin.
