A Work of Great Value.

The recent work of Eld. W. H. Littlejohn, entitled “The Religious Amendment to the Constitution” is worthy of the widest possible circulation. The readers of the REVIEW are acquainted with its contents, for it is composed of the series of articles which were written by Eld. L. for the Christian Statesman, the organ of the party which urges the religious amendment, and which were copied thence into the REVIEW, together with the series of replies published in that paper, and the rejoinders to them by Eld. L. This work presents both sides of this important subject, and is ably handled by both writers. But the victory of truth is unmistakable. The claims of the seventh day are vindicated with a degree of candor and a force of scriptural evidence and of just reason such as has seldom if ever been equaled. The emptiness of the testimony for first-day sacredness was never shown up more perfectly than in this work. Besides this, the nature of the movement in behalf of the religious amendment to the Constitution is set forth in a clear and striking light.
Never was a work more timely. It must attract much attention. It certainly deserves the widest circulation that we can give it. Its candor, its clearness of reasoning, its directness and point, its weight of Scripture testimony, its just treatment of the argument for Sunday from the fathers, and its truthful presentation of the movement respecting the amendment to the Constitution which is really designed to enable those who hold the popular view to suppress all other views by the strong arm of the law, render the book one of the greatest value to the cause of truth. It is the book to put into the hands of clergymen and men of leading position in the nation. It ought to be placed in all the libraries of the country. Let us take hold of this business in earnest, and we can accomplish a work of great importance to the cause of truth. J. N. A.
