Germans of Toledo Oppose the Custom of Treating

The Germans of Toledo, at a recent meeting, passed the following resolution:—
“Resolved, That we look upon the originally American custom of ‘treating’ as great evil and one of the main causes of intemperance, and that we will oppose this abuse with word and act.”
This is a move in the right direction. We observe that an association has been formed in San Francisco, the members of which covenant to totally eschew the custom of treating. It is a custom entirely unknown in other countries, and is an important promoter of intemperance and excessive drinking.—Ohio Statesman.
