The Right Kind of Recognition.
THERE is point in the following paragraph respecting those who are seeking to secure a more direct recognition of God in the Constitution of the United States. How much good will it do the people of the United States to recognize God, if their characters are such, otherwise, that he cannot recognize them? We clip the paragraph from a recent exchange:— “A small number of pious people are much concerned to secure a recognition of God in the constitution. As the very date of that instrument is such a recognition, the Bay City, Mich., Tribune inquires if their time would not be more profitably spent in securing God’s recognition of our government by making our laws as perfect as possible. It can make very little difference to the Almighty whether he is recognized by the United States or not; but it may be a matter of some importance to the government of the United States whether it be recognized by God or not.”
