SHARP POINTS

Dr. Guthrie used to fill up his sermons with sharp points, that they might prick the people during the services. Some one has said a sermon should be bristling all the way through, and another, a professor, always told his students to be sure their discourses had horns on them. It was told of some one that he was a good preacher, only that he would rake with the teeth upwards. Thus, people who hear sermons value them in proportion as they make them feel, by pungently reaching their consciences. The weak, goodish discourses, that, instead of being sharper than a two-edged sword, are like padded pellets, are never interesting to the earnest and devoted.
