Historical Chart.

We have recently been shown a copy of “Lyman’s Historical Chart, presenting the World’s History by Centuries, and containing all the prominent events of the civil, religious, and literary history of the world, from the earliest times to the present day.” We judge this to be a work of immense value. It is to the study of history what a good atlas is to the study of Geography. The course of empire, the rise and fall of nations, is presented as in a panoramic view before the eye. Of course it only aims to present the main points of history; but it is so arranged that the contemporaneous history of the world for each century, in its leading features, is presented at one view before the eye. We see no reason to doubt the claim put forth in behalf of this work, that more of history can be learned with it in three months, than in a year by the common method; and in this age of steam and telegraphs, this is what is wanted.
