Grasshopper Plague Strikes Kansas City

A KANSAS CITY dispatch says: “The grasshoppers came into town and covered sidewalks, fences, yards, etc., and the citizens instead of going to church have been destroying them all day by bushels. In many places, so many have been killed that an almost unendurable stench has been created, and sanitary measures have been taken to prevent disease. One man dug a trench 800 feet long, into which he drives them and kills millions. Independence, six miles from here, is worse off than we are.”
