THE FUTURE.

The future—dim and distant— No man can read aright. In wisdom, love unquestioned, God veils it from our sight.
Our feet may shrink and falter, Our hearts grow sick and faint At scenes of woe and sorrow, Anticipation paints.
Life may be bright and happy, Like one long summer day, It may be wrapped in darkness, 'Tis not for us to say.
But God is good and faithful, And loves his children well, He knows what best will fit us With him at last to dwell.
It may be some dark trial Will be the chastening rod To turn our hearts from idols To worship only God.
Whatever may befall us, Whatever fears arise, God never will forsake us; Faith holds secure the prize.
