Receiving Baptism.

I would not be hypercritical, but I would prefer, since it is full as cheap, to say that certain ones were baptized, instead of saying they “received baptism.” In spurious baptism a little water is received by the candidate; but in genuine baptism the liquid grave receives the candidate. In the one, it is the water that is sprinkled or poured: in the other, it is the person himself that is immersed. The commission says, “baptizing them,” not baptizing water—upon them. R. F. C.
