OH, SCENES OF BEAUTY!

O, scenes of beauty, hid from me, What longing thoughts ye raise, While Fancy sings to Memory Sweet songs of other days— Of happier days while yet mine eyes This glorious earth could see, And look up to the azure skies, And o’er the sun-lit sea. O, earth and sea, O, sun and moon, And every shining star, I still remember, in my gloom, How beautiful ye are!
I've loved to watch the sunbeams bright Stream from the summer skies, Flooding the world with joyous light, Cheering the saddest eyes. But better still I've loved the night, Lit by a softer ray; For moonlight made things beautiful That were not so by day. O, earth and sea, O, sun and moon, And every shining star, I still remember, in my gloom, How beautiful ye are!
