SYSTEM IN RAISING MEANS

SYSTEM IN RAISING MEANS.

We are impressed with the importance of system in raising means for our institutions, and for our missions, as well as to sustain our ministers. And we would here suggest that there should be a surplus in the General Conference treasury to meet the wants of any needy State. We venture the statement that if our people of the several States, whether in churches or scattered, would come up in their figures to the plan adopted, the sum of our S. B. as a people would be three times the present amount.
Let this be done, and equality will be established, and these local calls for smaller amounts will cease. Not less than $25,000 should be put into the General Conference treasury annually to be used under the supervision of the Committee, in the support of missionaries abroad and at home, to assist young men to prepare for the ministry, and to meet other wants, in extending the message. This sum can be made up by Conferences donating their surplus means, by scattered brethren putting in their S. B. and by the wealthy casting in of their abundance. We have too many small objects for benevolence before our people. While capital in our College, our Health Institute, and Publishing Houses should doubtless be held in shares of stock, there should be one fund from which to draw.
