An Interesting Book.

‘THE author, Mr. Francesco Urgos, at present a resident of this city, has just handed us for perusal a neat little volume of 328 pages, entitled “Thrilling Life Sketches,” which, upon reading, we unhesitatingly pronounce unusually entertaining.
The narrative of Mr. Urgos’ adventures while an officer in Garibaldi’s army, of the tortures inflicted upon him in the Inquisition, of his marvelous escape from this “hell upon earth,” his wanderings in exile, his travels through northern Africa and the Holy Land, his return to Italy, his persecution by the emissaries of the pope, and his capture with other republicans and banishment to America, is couched in terse, strong, and chaste language, and so thrilling that when the first chapter has been perused, the reader is unwilling to quit the book until he has read all.
Mr. Urgos, who is an Italian of noble birth, is a man of culture, and in the compilation and translation of his work into our language—assisted by his friend, Prof. F. Dawson, a teacher of languages—has given to the public a book which, when he shall have escaped from all persecution and affliction, and been admitted into the kingdom of the true God, will endure as a monument of his genius, and always stand forth, as it were, a living, speaking witness, testifying to the cruelty of the Jesuits and the intolerance of the Romish Church.
[That is what the Watseka (Ill.) Republican says; and it is the general verdict. Send to this Office for the book. Price, $1.25. C. W. S.]
