Blind Enthusiasm.

“He Holds the Fort in Heaven” is the name of a new piece of music dedicated to the late P. P. Bliss. In behalf of dead Mr. Bliss we protest that this thing is being carried too far. Besides, the very latest intelligence from the New Jerusalem would seem to indicate that there are no forts in Heaven—nor any other tokens of war.—Evening News.
The News is right—this is going too far; and religious papers that advertise so questionable a song would do well to think of it. We would suggest also that all the advices yet received from that City speak of the dead as quietly sleeping in the grave, where the Holy Spirit testified on the day of Pentecost that good old David still remained, although he had then been dead over a thousand years. Acts 2: 29, 34. Therefore if there are any forts to hold in Heaven, they do not depend upon the dead for troops.
