BELFAST, IRELAND.

A letter received from Bro. Johnson, of Belfast, Ireland, says, “You have no notion of the stir amongst the people in this northern part of Ireland on these great questions. Our ordinary preachers seem to know nothing of such things. This is the gist of the whole matter: if those men will not preach and teach God’s truth, he will just set them aside, and find men that will.”
“The clergy stand still on the one side, and the reading, thinking people on the other. The people are much surprised that the clergy are reticent on such momentous and all-important subjects. The whole cry of the clergy is, ‘More sustentation;’ and that of the people is, ‘More information.’ . . . The great Eastern question is the question of the day. It is an important one for England. Turkey, I think, will come up for judgment; and the old men in Rome next.”
