I began my labors at Jerome four weeks ago. The attendance has been regular and unbroken. The petition for the Congregational church was rejected on the ground of its heading, viz., “Petition for a course of lectures.” However, on the 13th inst., the same church was occupied by the Moscow amateurs, in the presentation of the pleasing and popular drama entitled “The Last Leaf,” which entertainment concluded with a farce. How consistent! yet how very significant! “More the lovers of pleasure than the lovers of God, having the form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.”
Within the limits of five miles, there are now forty-five trying to keep the law of God. Most of these are in regular attendance at the Sabbath meeting, and take part in the Bible-class. Among these there are nine converted from infidelity and spiritualism, who are now happy in the hope of eternal life through obedience toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. I have good reason to believe that this number may yet be increased by further labor if performed judiciously. There are respectable and intelligent farmers in this community, who are in full sympathy with present truth, and who, I believe, will one day identify themselves with this people. Pray for the work in this part of the harvest field. E. P. DANIELS.
