Fasting and Prayer.

At the request of various religious bodies in the State of Minnesota, the governor appointed the 26th day of April as a day of fasting and prayer, because of the grasshopper plague. In his proclamation he says, “In the shadow of the locust plague, whose impending renewal threatens desolation of the land, let us humbly invoke for the efforts we make in our defense the guidance of that hand which alone is adequate to stay ‘the pestilence that walketh in darkness and the destruction that wasteth at noon-day.’”
The governor of Iowa has issued a proclamation appointing May 3 for a like purpose.
