Self Deceived.

CHRIST compared the Pharisees of his day to whited sepulchers—attractive without, but forbidding within—beautiful to look upon, but full of pollution. If he were on the earth to-day, would he not find many of a similar character? not, perhaps, intentional deceivers, but self-deceived persons, who, because they cry Lord, Lord, imagine that they are his discples, but who in reality never knew him. But few professing Christians, it is presumed, attempt to deceive others; but it is to be feared that there are a great number who are deceived themselves. Profession amounts to nothing—mere morality amounts to nothing, so far as the salvation of the soul is concerned—without the renewing and converting grace of God. It matters not what the life may be, a man's heart must be right before God, in order to be saved.—Sel.
