A Day of Fasting and Prayer.

To our dear brethren and sisters in Vermont: In view of our great need of ministerial labor in our Conference, and of the disappointment the present season in not having help to run our tent, it seems appropriate that we press the question to each of our hearts, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” We confidently believe that God regards this Conference equally with others, and that he will send us the needed help, when, as individuals, we fully realize our need of it, and suitably humble ourselves before him.
After prayerful consideration on the subject, we do therefore recommend that Sabbath, August 11, 1877, be regarded as a day of fasting and prayer throughout our State Conference. And while supplicating the throne of grace, we should remember the general interests of the cause in all its departments. We recommend that the following should be special objects of earnest and humble prayer:—
1. That the Lord would in his providence graciously favor us with help to publish the last solemn notes of mercy in the whitening harvest fields of our State and Conference; and that young men in our midst may be thrust out to act the part they should in the great work of the Lord.
2. That our soon-coming camp-meeting may be signalized by the special presence and divine favor of the Holy Spirit; that it may prove a source of great and permanent blessing to all our churches; and that by it precious souls may be turned from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to the power of God.
Let all our churches, as they may assemble for divine worship on this day, and the scattered ones, unite in solemnly seeking that humiliation and consecration of heart before God which will secure his approval and an answer to the united petitions before his gracious throne.
