RAILROAD RIOTS.

Fearful scenes of riot and bloodshed are reported along some of the lines of eastern railroads, especially in Western Pennsylvania. The employees are striking for higher wages, and taking measures not only to prevent others from entering the employ of the roads, but to stop the running of trains. In Pittsburgh it is reported that 150 locomotives and 400 loaded freight cars were destroyed July 23, and 25 persons killed. It has assumed the proportions almost of a civil war, and what is worst, the spirit is spreading, and involving other roads. Unless matters are speedily adjusted, there will soon be an entire suspension of freight traffic between the east and the west. It is a part of the long impending conflict between labor and capital, fostered by the spirit of communism, trades unions, working men's associations, etc., that is abroad in the land, and is one of the disturbing elements of the troublous times of the last days.
