God's Way and Man's Way

Man's way is, “Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all;” God's way is, “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.” Man, in his self-sufficiency, would wait till he can give or do something to earn salvation for himself; but, when taught of God, he comes empty-handed, and joyfully receives at once eternal life as “the gift of God through Jesus Christ.” It is then that he inquires, “What shall I render to the Lord?”—working not for life but from life, as the old divines would say.
