Failures This Year.

MESSRS. DUN, BARLOW & CO. report that the failures in the United States for the first six months of the present year are 5,825, as against 4,749 in 1877, an increase of over 1,000 in number, and equal to nearly twenty-five per cent.
The liabilities for the first half of 1878 are $130,000,000, as against $99,000,000 for the same period of last year, a percentage of increase still greater. Never before in the history of the country have business misfortunes been so numerous, or aggregating an amount of loss by bad debts so great.
