ALSTRUP, SEPT. 17.—I was unavoidably detained in Stavanger, Norway, two days. Monday afternoon I was invited to speak to the children in the temperance hall. About fifty children met, and we had an interesting meeting.
In the evening I took part in the Methodist prayer-meeting. These brethren received me very kindly, and my short stay with them was truly edifying. Tuesday evening I lectured on temperance by the urgent request of the society. The hall was well filled. I obtained in all five subscribers for the TIDENDE in this place.
A two-days’ voyage on steamer took me to Denmark. I found the brethren Bronson in Alstrup. I feel very glad and thankful that the Lord has brought them safely across the ocean, and that they are now here to help me. They are both at work. Bro. Knud went with me to Tylstrup Friday. We held several meetings among the brethren. Then he went to Hellum—two miles—where two precious souls have commenced to keep the Sabbath. To-morrow I go with Bro. Andrew to Sjelland.
JOHN G. MATTESON.
