CLEANING THE TEMPLE.

Did Christ cleanse the temple twice? Matt. 21; John 2. Matt. 21 evidently gives a continuous narrative circumstantially related, while John 2 touches upon several of the principal acts and sayings of the Saviour’s life, without particular reference to the succession of events. In this chapter are mentioned that first miracle in Cana of Galilee, verses 1-11; the visit to the temple, verses 13-17; the memorable saying of verse 19; and the recollections after the resurrection, verse 22,—reaching, in point of time, from the commencement of Christ’s ministry to his resurrection. If this criticism be true, then Matt. 21:12, 13 and John 2:13-17 record the same event. D. H. L.
