How Old Is the Church of England?

It is reported that in a speech in the British House of Lords, recently, on the right of a man to marry his deceased wife’s sister, the Bishop of London contended that the prohibition rested on “a law of God,” and added that it was also “a law of the church,” and that on this subject “the Church of England has held these peculiar notions for upwards of 1,800 years”!.
