Russian Railroad Loan and Jewish Population Estimates
—The loan the Russian Government is about to put upon the London market is ostensibly for the advancement of railroad construction. That next to be placed upon the market, it is already announced, will be for a much larger sum, and will be avowedly for war material. —Of the Hebrew race there are, according to recent estimates, about 7,000,000—5,000,000 are in Europe, 200,000 in Asia, 100,000 in Africa, and about 1,500,000 in America. It will be seen that the Jewish population is about the same as it was in the days of King David. In many respects, and even in all respects, the Hebrews are the wonder of history. They have filled a large and honored place in the chronicles of nations, and are the same peculiar people they were three thousand years ago.
