BE NOT AFRAID.
Be not afraid To give expression to a noble thought, Because the world may sneer and cry, "Tis naught," And may upbraid.
Be not afraid To do the thing that conscience tells is right. The way is hard, but 'tis not always night; Thou'lt be repaid.
Be not afraid To battle, sometimes, on the losing side; The victory of truth o'er wrong and pride Is but delayed.
Be not afraid To disapprove of what the world may prize, Of senseless laws that fashion's votaries Have ever made.
Be not afraid To recognize the greeting of a friend, Whose poverty and poor attire offend The well-arrayed. —Sel.
