The Demands of Socialism.

AT a meeting of socialists in Chicago a short time ago, a speaker declared that all monopolists in the country ought to be hanged. Criminal laws, he said, were unnecessary, and ought to be abolished; all demands against laborers should be met with absolute resistance. The only way to stop a threatened famine, was to pay for nothing, but use what we want without price. The same sentiment was reiterated by other speakers, and approved by the audience.
At a later meeting, a leading speaker said that this world had been created for all men alike, and that capitalists must take non-capitalists into co-partnership, or else, with the assistance of dynamite, leave the world. The speaker was loudly applauded.
No bolder statements were ever uttered by the nihilists of Russia. Indeed the so-called socialism of this country is but nihilism under a false name. Without some wholesome check upon it, we may easily forecast its future work.
