The Proposed Order of Monks

THE subject of establishing an order of monks is eliciting not a little discussion in English Church circles, and as remarked by a prominent Catholic paper, that church "is almost ready to reverse its opinions of three centuries on the question of 'monks.'" The matter was first broached by Archdeacon Farrar, and is being vigorously pushed by Rev. C. G. Sharpe, of Southampton; but most of the bishops to whom the scheme has been presented are, it is said, guarded in their expressions of approval.
