The First and Second Adam

THE first Adam, created pure, was placed in a garden; there the tempter came to him, and he fell into sin, and was driven forth into the wilderness. The second Adam, coming to redeem, though without sin, consents to be treated as a sinner, enters the wilderness to meet the tempter, and conquers him, that he may bring man back to the garden. —R.
