The Difference.

NEARLY every secular paper that mentions the bankruptcy of Archbishop Purcell, of Cincinnati, takes occasion to compliment the prelate. "He was a great and good man whose life has been devoted to good works," and all profoundly sympathize with him. Not a word of sympathy is expressed for the numerous creditors who have lost in the aggregate six million dollars at the hands of this eminently pious priest. Had a Protestant bishop been defaulter to the amount of one fiftieth part of the sum which Priest Purcell honestly owes, his corruption would have been heralded from ocean to ocean and from the rivers to the ends of the earth!—Cul.
