THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES

Volume Twenty.
THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES enters upon a new volume under favorable auspices. God has blessed it during the year that is past; he will bless it in the year to come. In his providence it was started; in his providence it has been published for nearly a score of years; in his providence it will continue till its work shall be done, and the Master shall return.

THE FUTURE.

Its future has been indicated by its past. It will, by God's grace, ever go forward in the ever clearer light of revealing truth. We are living in momentous times. Never before was humanity so longing for something better and yet fearing something worse, expectantly asking "What next?" We have reached that time of which Christ speaks, when men's hearts are failing them for fear and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth (see Luke 21: 25-27). What all these things mean the world does not know. Many are led by blind guides; many more are indifferent; but there are others who are groping in the darkness of error for the light of truth as it is in Christ Jesus.
As God bestows grace, the SIGNS will endeavor, during the coming year, to let its light shine; to hold forth the word of life; to preach the gospel of Christ to the world.
Its Editorial pages will deal with the great vital truths of the gospel, with current events and their bearing on the religious life and trend of the day as foretold in the prophetic word.
In General Articles we expect the discussion of the soul-stirring themes of salvation in Christ, Christ's righteousness and life, the prophecies, and all that pertains to the gospel of Christ. For this we will have to depend upon those who have contributed so freely in the past, with those who may do so. These contributions, some of which are of special value, have been given freely for the sake of precious souls.
Our Home and Health department will endeavor to set before our readers that, and that only, which will serve to instruct, elevate and refine the families visited by the paper.
In Mission Fields, will be given articles, original and selected, treating on work in the various mission fields of the world, and for this we solicit contributions.
Our Work and Workers department will continue to give a concise report of the work which the Seventh-day Adventist people are doing in all parts of the world, and for this department we solicit short reports of interest from our laborers.
In our Sabbath School department will be found not only the regular Sabbath school lesson, but also the International Sunday school lessons. The lesson scripture from the revised version is printed for both these lessons. These are worthy of special study by all.
Our News and Notes are also worthy of attention. Here is gleaned, from noted dailies and religious weeklies, important news from all parts of the world. This news is carefully sifted and special effort made to have it reliable. It may be safely said that the great majority of secular weekly papers do not give as much real news from week to week as does the SIGNS. Let this fact be presented before your neighbors to interest them in the paper.
The above is a semi-summary of the things which the SIGNS will place before its readers in the year to come. By God's blessing we hope to make it better than ever before. But if it is made better, it will not accomplish good, unless it is circulated, and for this we must depend upon our friends. Will you not help us, and give the SIGNS OF THE TIMES a larger circulation than ever before? May it not be twenty thousand before the year shall close?
