3428 — The Tribe of Benjamin

Can you give me information as to what became of the tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve patriarchs? L. H.
When the tribes entered Canaan, the tribe of Benjamin received its inheritance within the large portion allotted to Judah, so that after the division its territory adjoined that of Judah. Joshua 18:11-28. Jerusalem was in the territory of Benjamin. When the division of the kingdom occurred, as David belonged to or was identified with Judah, God gave him the tribe of Benjamin, and gave ten tribes to Jeroboam. Judah and Benjamin were ever afterward parts of the one kingdom, tho the families of the tribes preserved their tribal genealogy. See 2 Chron. 11:1; 15:8; Ezra 1:5; 4:1; Phil. 3:5. Most of the Levites remained with Judah. When the Jews were scattered at the destruction of the nation all tribal identity was gone.
