Warships Damaged by Friendly Collision

The explosion on the French battle-ship La Liberte, with its awful consequences, and the ramming, September 20, of the great White Star liner Olympic by the British protected cruiser the Hawke, designed for ramming, yet suffering more than the Olympic, indicates that in the excitement of battle a fleet might sustain greater damages from its own ships than it would inflict upon the enemy. In the latter accident not one of the 2,000 persons in passengers and crews were injured, and the water-tight compartments kept the Olympic afloat.
