GIVING OR RELINQUISHING.

"So MR. JONES gave $500 to missions at his death, did he?" The question was asked of a city pastor the other day. And the answer was, "I did not say he gave it, but that he left it; perhaps I should have more explicitly said that he relinquished $500 because he could no longer hold it." The distinction needs to be kept in mind. One gives only when living; he relinquishes at death. There is plenty of Scripture commendation for giving, but none that we recall for relinquishing what the cold, stiffened fingers of death can no longer hold.
