Our Lord’s Betrayal and Crucifixion

3737 — A. K. — Our Lord's Betrayal and Crucifixion. — God foresaw that Jesus Himself should be betrayed and crucified. This is very clearly stated in Psalm 22 and in Isaiah 53. See also Acts 4: 27, 28. But apart from this, when our Lord gave Himself for His lost creatures and a marred creation, He gave His all, His very life; and while men in effect put Him to death, at the same time He "poured out His soul," or His life, and died of a broken heart. He would have died if He had not been crucified.
