Heathen at Home and Abroad
"THERE are heathen enough at home," is a very common cry in our day when the cause of foreign missions is presented. Very true, there are too many of them. But if all the twelve apostles, and all the Christians in Jerusalem in their day, and all their descendants until the present day, had labored on that principle, the Gospel would still be confined to Palestine, and the plea, "There are heathen enough at home," would still be true. "ALL power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore." Certainly no work demands greater spiritual, intellectual, and even physical strength than that of attacking false systems of religion in their strongholds,—in the professed Christian church at home, or among the "heathen" abroad,—and supplanting them with the true faith. Such a work requires not only a deep spirit of consecration to the service, but the constant wearing of the "whole armor of God."
