Alfred Russell Wallace on Human Progress
It is being asserted that the eminent English naturalist, Dr. Alfred Russell Wallace, has made serious trouble for himself by saying, “There has been no advance in intellect or morals from the days of the earliest Egyptians down to the laying of the keel of the Dreadnought.” Mr. Wallace has been recognized all over the world as one of the great scientists of the age. Such statements as this one that he is reported to have made, are more in harmony with the actual facts in the case than they are with the theories of evolution. Perhaps that is one reason why the great scientist is in trouble because of what he has said.
