The Outrage of Tipping

The tipping system is an outrage on the general public, and it is made more so by the people who have more money than they know what to do with. For instance, it is said that waiters and head waiters were astonished when, in a hotel in Philadelphia, one of them got a $25.00 fee; but a woman from New York says that it is not uncommon for a head waiter to get $100, and $25.00 and $50.00 tips are so frequent as to be almost common. Those who give the tips, of course, are bound to get good service, while others who are equally worthy, pay for their food in the same way, but are deprived of the service which belongs to them. It ought to be prohibited by law.
