Prof. E. L. Larkin tells us that it is now "settled" that uranium transforms itself into radium, "and the rate of change is fairly well determined, and the time is now known to be not less than one billion years." This is definite, but rather disappointing to the modern scientist who would try to verify it by actual observation.
