Beyond To-day

By Flora C. Warren
Beyond the moment's blinding, fitful impulse,
Full many days of golden pleasures lie;
Beyond the heart's deceiving, restless current,
Are peaceful streams, and fountains never dry.
Beyond the darkened thorofares of evil,
Beyond the haunts of folly and of gloom,
Are vernal fields, and heaven's sunlight glory
Shines full and free o'er never-ending bloom.
To-day proud Earth may draw mirth-robes about her,
And beckon all to join and God forget;
To-morrow hears the mourning sigh of sadness
Beneath the shadow of a vain regret.
Beyond to-day are songs of love and gladness;
Beyond to-day—sweet life and purity;
O weary one, leave all to Earth her pleasure,
Beyond to-day is Heaven full and free.
