A GENTLEMAN of the highest integrity makes grave charges against the representatives of justice in one of our large cities. He declares that there is a systematic organized agency to entrap, secrete and debauch young girls in that city; that this fact is known to the police and to the lower courts. He also says that he knows of a case in which two of the best known and most honorable ministers of the Gospel tried to have this diabolical business stopped, and here are his words:
"But the thing that is of consequence is, that when a minister of religion, and a resident in a particular neighborhood, whose calling, character, experience, and truthfulness are all alike widely and abundantly recognized, goes to the headquarters of the police in his district to appeal to them for the protection of the young, the innocent, and the defenseless against the leprous harpies who are hired as runners and touters for the lowest and most infamous dens of vice, he is met, not only with contempt and derision, but with the coarsest insult and obloquy."
