(2) Note the enlargement of the Lord's promise to Abraham at each succeeding time until Abraham saw the promise to be universal and everlasting, applying not only to Jew but to Gentile, not only to the earthly but to the heavenly Canaan. (3) Abraham walked with and obeyed God, and was therefore called His friend. What does Christ call us? 2 Chron. 20:17; Isa. 41:8; James 2:23; John 15:14, 15.
