IN THE GRIP OF UTTER DESPAIR
By G. B. T.
It is no place here to build and hoard up wealth. We read that "they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of His majesty, when He ariseth to shake terribly the earth. In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; to go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of His majesty, when He ariseth to shake terribly the earth." Isa. 2: 19-21. That which God has intrusted to us, we have the opportunity to-day to invest in souls, in doing good, in spreading abroad the kingdom of heaven. Soon it will be too late, and in utter despair we will cast our means to the moles and the bats — creatures of darkness — and in terror hide among rocks, from the face of Jesus. To-day Christ is in the heavenly sanctuary as a priest, interceding for man, and offers forgiveness of sin to all who will come to Him for pardon. Soon He will lay down the censer, and ride forth as a conqueror, followed by all the armies that are in heaven. Then it will be too late to invest in heavenly treasure. To-day is indeed the day of salvation.
