The Sunday-law agitators are pushing things in California, and are, we are informed, pledging candidates for the legislature, demanding of each one that he shall support a Sunday law in order to receive the support of the churches. We earnestly hope that candidates for the legislature, to whatever party they may belong, may have independence of mind enough to ignore utterly these requests. Religion or a religious dogma that must be supported by law in order to be able to stand is unworthy of any support.
