Waiting.

"I WILL go and work for my King," I cried, "There are so many ways on every side." But my feet could not reach the open door, And I heard a voice whisper, "Try no more, Rest quietly on this bed of pain, Strength for some other day to gain." And my heart was filled with dark despair, For how could I serve my Master there? While I lay idle day by day, Those chances to work would slip away. Then slowly the darkness lifted, and lo! Again came the whisper, soft and low, "When they cease to murmur against their fate, They also serve who only wait." —Eunice Clark Barstow.
