Labor On

By Pearl Waggoner
LABOR on a little longer. Swift the day is fleeting by; Even now the shades of evening Can be seen across the sky.
Labor on, for night is coming, When earth's work must all be done. Weary not; the time is shortening, And the crown is almost won.
Labor on,—the world is waiting; Look around, the fields are white. O, how few are those who labor! Yet each moment brings the night.
Rouse thee, then, to new endeavor; Labor on,—the field is wide. Courage take from this assurance, Angel help is by thy side.
Labor on, nor grow disheartened By the roughness of the way. Many sheaves—the worker's guerdon— Shall be thine at close of day.
