A Diplomats' War

IN discussing the present European war, a Labor member of the British Parliament is reported to have said: "It is a diplomatists' war, made by about half a dozen men. Up to the moment that ambassadors were withdrawn, the peoples were at peace. They had no quarrel with each other. They bore each other no ill will. A dozen men brought Europe to the brink of the precipice, and Europe fell over it."
Diplomats and rulers always have to be the aggressors in making war; but if Europe were not filled with the war spirit, these national leaders could not lead their men so readily on to the battlefield. The clear prophetic word of God informs us that when the Judgment-day is pending, the nations are angry; and while men are dreaming that this will be the last great war, we will nevertheless see that it is only the beginning of the furious war scenes that are to curse these closing days of time. Happy is the man or the woman who learns to know God's word, and to depend upon that, disregarding the conflicting and visionary themes of men.
