Princess Augusta Victoria Engaged

The engagement of Princess Augusta Victoria of Hohenzollern to Ex-King Manuel of Portugal is announced. The bride-elect is the only daughter of Prince William, head of the non-reigning line of Hohenzollern, and the consent of the kaiser was necessary. Not only did the German emperor assent readily, but he forwarded a message of congratulation to Queen Amelie, the mother of Manuel. The princess is related to King Charles of Rumania, and her uncle is Prince Ferdinand, heir-presumptive to the Rumanian throne. Don Manuel and his fiancee are second cousins, being related through the princess's grandmother, who is a Portuguese princess.
