Useful Even in Isolation

WHEN John was banished to Patmos, a lonely, rocky island in the Ægean Sea, he probably thought his usefulness was at end. But God’s thoughts are not as our thoughts, nor his ways as our ways (Isa. 55 : 8, 9); and therefore he who often maketh the wrath of man to praise him so overruled the event that it was for the glory of his own name and the good of his servant. From that rocky pulpit the beloved disciple has been preaching adown the centuries, and will till the glorified Saviour shall come to take his bride to himself. It is best to trust God in storm and sunshine. He can make us useful where we little think of it. See Rom. 8 : 28.—Messiah’s Herald.
