Willing to Suffer to Gain His Ends

The following paragraphs are a literal translation of part of a letter from a student in the China Union Mission Training-School at Shanghai. This young man is the only member of his family who is a Christian. When he first became acquainted with our missionaries, he was a typical heathen boy about fourteen years old. His words show his desire to fit himself to tell others of the gospel, and show at once the need of such a training-school as has been built at Shanghai, and the good work it is doing.
"I am determined to study hard in school and learn all about the truth, and I hope that the Lord can use me to do some small work when I come out. I am willing to 'eat bitter' [suffer], and serve God in whatever station He calls me to. This is my ideal.
"Please remember me in your prayers, that I may become a faithful and trustworthy disciple of Christ, waiting for His glorious appearing, and may together with you receive everlasting happiness. This is my heart's desire. Amen."
MRS. LOUISE ROBERTS.
